     在趋于当下与时尚的艺术青年中,向国华对中国画山水、花鸟、人物的浓厚兴趣,的确显得与众不同。他偏好绘制的书写性,能自如地表现传统书画的笔墨情趣,说明他有很好的绘画功底和审美素养。

     但画家无意停留在从宣纸到画布、从水墨到油彩的材料转换之中,他想寻找一种方式来解构传统,使之产生出新鲜的视觉感受。创作伊始,向国华就采用了裁剪、切割、拼接、重组种种手段,让整体性的画面变得支离破碎,也变得光色晃动。这种破坏显得如此的单纯而直接,以至让人觉得象是小儿的恶作剧,理无可恕而情有可原。且慢,如果我们只把对象描绘视作艺术的起点,那向国华正得意地向你展示其   构成性的画面效果。事实上他的作品也不时参加抽象画展。条块的硬直与笔触的阴柔、形象的显隐与色泽的冷暖,画家在平面布局中把玩着七巧板式的组合而自得其乐。

      尽管一个集体社会总想延续千百年来的集体传统,但分解传统使之成为个体创作资源的念头,却在诱惑消费时代的每一个青年画家。消费传统的结果故然不无降格的遗憾,但如果新的感觉在新的方式中得以呈现,又何乐而不为呢?


      有句话说得真好:历史,总是在一代不如一代的哀叹中前进的。

Where is the meaning
Preface to the Exhibition of Xiang Guohua’s Paintings

          During the present fashionable youths, Xiang Guohua has a strong interest to Chinese traditional landscape, flower-bird and figure paintings, which makes him so different from others. He prefere calligraphing when drawing a painting and has an ability to freely express the sentiment of brush and ink that sharing in traditional calligraphy and painting. All of these show his good basic skill of painting and Aesthetic Attainment.
But he didn’t want to just stay in the stage of material transformation, such as change the material from rice paper to the canvas or from ink to paint. He wants to seek a way to deconstruct the tradition, in order to produce a new visual feeling. From the beginning of his creation, he has used all sorts of methods such as cutting out, incising, slicing, reconstruction…, which tears a unitary picture into pieces and makes the light and color flickering.   The destruction appears so simplicity and straight that likes a young child's practical joke which unreasonable but excusable. But wait a minute; if we only regard the objectivity description as the beginning of art, then Xiang Guohua is demonstrating his constitutive character in his paintings to you proudly. In fact, he often participates in abstract art exhibitions. There are contrasts between hard bars and blocks and soft brushwork, reveal images and concealed ones, and cold colors and warm colors in his paintings. The painter takes great delight in playing jigsaw puzzle in two-dimensional space
              Although a community has always wanted to continue its tradition for thousands of years, but the ideal that deconstruct tradition to let it become individual property is tempting every young artist. The likely fodegradation that caused by “Consuming” tradition maybe regretted. However since new feelings present by the new ways, why not go ahead with it.
As a good old saying goes, history always goes ahead with the sigh that generations are inferior to generations.
